Frequently Asked Questions
NDIS on Windows CE

Q. Where can I find information about using NDISUIO on Windows CE 4.X?

A. Microsoft installs NDISUIO in Windows CE 4.X (Pocket PC 2003) OS.

This is logically similar to the NDIS 5.1 version of NDISUIO provided on Windows XP. However, the interface between applications and NDISUIO.DLL are significantly different from the "Big Windows" counterpart.

Information describing the application interface to NDISUIO can be found in two places:

bulletPlatform Builder 4.X Help File - Search for "ndisuio"
bulletMSDN Library - Search for "ndisuio+ce"

Q. Can I use IOCTL_NDIS_QUERY_GLOBAL_STATS on Windows CE?

A. No.

However, on Window CE 4.X the NDISUIO driver provides IOCTL_NDISUIO_QUERY_OID_VALUE that can be used for the same purpose.

Q. Is NDISUIO available on Windows CE 3.0 (Pocket PC 2002)?

A. No.

The Microsoft NDISUIO driver is a NDIS 5.1 driver. Windows CE 3.0 supports only NDIS 4.0.

Of more significance, application interface to NDISUIO uses system services that are new to Windows CE 4.2.
